So lots of changes since the last post, getting the basic game engine squared away and working how I want. I think I’m close to that point, which is nice, because I’m itching to add all sorts of new stuff! But this is good, by making myself finish boring basic things first, adding new stuff is going to be a breeze…all the corresponding Editors are already creating all the content for the sim world. In the next few days a new, larger test world will be released. I’ll be working with the simulator and playing with numbers for hopefully not too long and once I’m happy with how the engine is tuned, then we can start bolting on all the new fancy parts.
So here is where we are now…the game is working, the basic systems are in, the sim bot plays all the way through to the end game successfully (most of the time). Shopkeepers buy and sell stuff, the Lorekeeper identifies stuff, Witches remove curses and can even reverse a negative effect into a positive. Guards patrol the town and watch out over the welfare of the citizens. Random loot fuels the players adventure, ensuring that they get more and more powerful over time. What is next?
Questing systems: Mobmaster – hunt down a specific mob to show your knowledge of the realm, Questmaster – perform various quests, often involving multiple steps and exploration, Quest Items – earn Quest Points (QP) and use QP to buy powerful unique items, ensuring players that take the time to quest will always be amongst the most powerful in the realm.
Artifacts: Ancient items of powerful magic, long ago broken and scattered to the four winds. Find the pieces, build the artifact, claim its power!
Companions: Mobs that help you out! This will allow hirelings, summoned creatures, all sorts of fun stuff (:
A Real World: The real world will arrive at the end…a huge world, multiple cities (racial home cities, towns, villages), “dungeons”, dark forests, towering mountains, dry deserts, deep oceans, stormy skies.
So keep watching; in the next week or two (I hope), 0.2.0 will release with a public playtest version for PC and Mac. The game already checks for updates and automatically updates itself, so once you have a copy, it will keep itself up to date and inform you about new changes.
